Spongy, sinking, or settling ground near your seawall is a sign that soil is disappearing from behind the wall — usually before any damage is visible on the wall itself.
This is one of the easiest warning signs to miss, because the wall itself can still look fine. What's actually happening is underground: soil behind the wall is washing out through gaps, cracks, or failed joints, leaving voids that eventually show up as sinking ground above.
By the time soil loss is visible in your yard, there's usually already a meaningful void behind the wall. Left alone, that void grows, and it's what eventually leads to the leaning or cracking that gets much more expensive to fix.
